Small evergreen tree of lowland forest margins. Juvenile foliage looks like the webbed feet of a duck. At 2 metres the leaves take on a different colour, size and shape. Clusters of black fruits ripen February/March attractive to birds, especially the bellbird.

A compact, upright flax with narrow emerald-green leaves forming a small bushy clump. Much smaller than P. cookianum, so better for use in a home garden. Ideal for border group plantings or in containers. Grows well in most well drained positions. Evergreen. Hardy.

Stiffly erect, evergreen leaves with a dark brown stripe on the edge. Very hardy, naturally growing in subalpine areas. Flowers attract birds and bees Suitable for small gardens and low cover on exposed sites.

NZ evergreen. Broad erect green or bluish-green blades, erect tall flower heads in spring attract nectar feeding birds. Seed pods stand erect. Favours wet sites but adaptable. Used for shelter in exposed moist coastal sites.
