S.E. Australia & Tasmania. Broadly columnar, evergreen. Cream flowers in spring. Best growth in moist gullies and with side shade. Frost damage in cold valley bottoms. Dark brown timber for cabinets and turnery.

Broadly spreading, evergreen. Tough shelter shrub for exposed and coastal conditions but is too frost tender for inland South Island areas. Wood is hard and black, streaked with white.

E.USA. Broadly columnar, deciduous. Thornless variety producing long brown pods which are edible by stock. Yellow leaves in autumn. Light shade with fairly open crown. Wood is hard & coarse grained. The red-brown heartwood is very durable.

Mediterranean. Broadly conical, evergreen. Dark green leaves aromatic when crushed, used in cooking. Forms a dense screen, clips well as a hedge. spacing 500-700mm. Thrives in coastal areas.
