Medium size evergreen oak from the warmer parts of China, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong and north of Vietnam. Grows on ridge tops and slopes in mature or primary tropical & subtropical forest at 500-2200m. Leaves narrow and hang down. Growing at Eastwoodhill, none have survived outside in the UK.

Tall, straight, evergreen. Leaves thick, coarse textured & toothed. Underside thick and felted, turn red or yellow before falling in spring. New leaves pink, some turning chocolate, others silvery green. Promising growth in NZ, timber potential.

Japan. Broadly spreading, deciduous, a major timber tree. Separated from Q. mongolica in 2006, accepted as new species. Tints of orange and red in autumn. Cold hardy. Acorns eaten by sheep.(Oak ICRA checklist)

An evergreen red oak from the mountain cloud forest zone. Large acorn almost enclosed by the cup. Another rare oak worthy of a trial.
