Eastern North America. Broadly spreading, deciduous. Attractive tall shrub. Bronzey new leaves, masses of small white flowers, small red fruits for the birds in November and December. Yellow to red autumn colours. Very hardy.

Bushy grey-green stout branched compact shrub. Leaves leathery 2-4cm long, dark green, white beneath, margins upcurved, wavy. Flowers daisy-like furry with yellow radiating petals in single or small clusters Jan & Feb. Naturally uncommon. Growing on limestone cliffs around Castlepoint, Wairarapa. Withstands strong, drying and salt laden winds, an attractive shrub.

Eastern Marlborough high on Seaward Kaikoura Range. Tall shrub with upright branches, topped by a canopy of weeping grey leafless branchlets. In December large hanging clusters of 10mm mauve flowers. Fixes nitrogen.

Broadly spreading, deciduous. Attractive pin pea-like flowers in clusters along the old shoots, branches and trunk before, and as, the leaves emerge. Natural habitat in moist woods. Predominantly used for rootstock for budding 'Forest Pansy'
