Pendunculate oak. Widespread across Europe. Broadly spreading. deciduous. Often has a short bole and stout branches when widely spaced. Trees long lived, preferring damp heavy soils. Heavy acorn production. Valuable durable timber.

Southern-central USA to 200m a.s.l.. Fast growing large broad crowned deciduous tree, with red colours in late autumn. Grows on wet, heavy soils with a deep root syatem. Known also as Texas red oak, probably best in the milder parts of NZ. Rare, but promising in NZ.

Mountains of West Asia. Tall shrub with wider leaves than other willows, light green, serrated edges, silvery and downy beneath leaves. Not a bitter willow, pliable and used for stream bank protection. Cuttings 40cm, Rooted topped @ 1m.

NZ bred lasiolepis x viminalis. Deciduous, vigorous, multi-stemmed, erect. Bitter leaves resistant to rabbits, possums, rust & giant willow aphid. Some drought tolerance. slip stabilisation 2nd line stream bank (not stream edge) Flowers in Aug/Sept, pollen & nectar for bees. Cuttings 40cm, Rooted topped @ 1m.
