A columnar form from seedlings at least 2 years old. Vigorous with form like a Lombardy poplar. Deeply rooted and wind firm. Brown leaves held through winter maintaining the screening and sheltering effect. Fast growth and good acorn production.

Southern-central USA to 200m a.s.l.. Fast growing large broad crowned deciduous tree, with red colours in late autumn. Grows on wet, heavy soils with a deep root syatem. Known also as Texas red oak, probably best in the milder parts of NZ. Rare, but promising in NZ.
